Skipper to join established Mate and volunteer crew on board 20m Gaff Ketch Fife, Swan. To oversee safety and operation of vessel while delivering quality sail training skills to passengers of all ages.
The boat is predominantly used as a sail training vessel with some private charter and public trips, including international trips. Swan is coded Category 0.
Location: Lerwick based, Sailing around Shetland, NE Scotland and Faroe during summer 2027.
Date: 1st April to 30th September 2027
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 Pro Rata (before deductions) depending on experience
Annual Leave: 38 days Pro Rata
Requirements/Qualifications
You will be required to demonstrate a degree of flexibility in managing your hours of work within the seasonal variations of Swan’s diary commitments. Hours of rest must be recorded on provided timesheets.
Skipper requirements:
- RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, Commercially endorsed;
- OR equivalent MCA qualification;
- Radio Operators Licence
- Current ENG1
- STCW Proficiency in Medical Care Certificate, or its predecessor, STCW Ship’s Captain’s Medical Certificate
- Diesel Engine Course
- Sea Survival Course
- MCA approved Fire Fighting Course
- Radar Training Course (completed prior to December 2025)
- Food Hygiene Level 2
- Experience of Sail Training with young people;
- General engine maintenance skills would be an advantage;
- Disclosure Scotland check will be required.
