Ocean Youth Trust South has a vessel refit each winter, normally run by our team of three paid staff (Skipper, Engineer and Mate) alongside lots of volunteers. Owing to a change of Staff Mate this winter and a gap between one leaving and the other joining, we are looking for an Assistant Refit Manager on a temporary daily contract for specific weeks between December 2026 and March 2027.
The mission is to get our beautiful boat Prolific into excellent condition for a busy sailing season working with young people in 2027.
Location: Prolific’s home port is Ocean Village, Southampton, but when the vessel is out of the water, (23rd November – 22nd Feb) she will be based in Saxon Wharf, Southampton.
Salary: In the range £12.71 – £14.08 per hour
Contract: Temporary daily contract based on dates agreed. We are looking for cover for the dates outlined in the document linked below.

We are looking for someone highly organised who can help to manage and supervise the volunteers and take an admin load off the skipper, but also with good boat maintenance skills and the willingness to get stuck in and get their hands dirty. They must also be able to drive the refit car.
